berliners dirk leyers and nomad expressed their hard earned musical freedom in a dogma: the use of a roland tr-808 analog drum machine in every single track. they programmed the machine to lay poly-rhythms over multicultural drum and percussion tracks, fascinated -and sometimes puzzled- by its own characteristically sudden swing and accent changes, and named it: africaine 808 - their third and first female band member. in the first year of their musical joint venture, the three spent quite some time in remixing and editing some of their favourite african and island funk tunes, transforming the old gold into modern dj and dancefloor friendly tunes. the sound of organic grooves mixed with 808-beats and analogue synthesizer basslines became soon a trademark sound, and more and more samples got replaced by live played guitar, bass, organ and percussion. the trio experimented with different tempos and styles ranging from slow cumbia and exotic rumba themes to island-funk and percussive disco, electro and house. in spring 2012 they first took the project to another level, turning their tracks into a full live act at one of the vulkandance nights in berlin. today the project is growing and integrating guest musicians, drummers, percussionists and vocalists - for live performances as well as for recording in the studio. 100% sonic voodoo golf channel every time!

we have been a fan of motor city drum ensemble since the brooding and eerie >escape to nowhere< in 2007 - a track that sounded like someone had listened to > french kiss< on acid and then tried to recreate what they heard. so when we started re-issuing romanthonys classics with fresh remixes, mcdes danilo plessow was always someone we wanted to on the project. it has taken 2 years to organise this mix and now it is finally here it doesnt disappoint. taking on > trust<, most people would head straight for the vocal but plessow instead eschews that idea for a warm, low slung dub mix reminiscent of muzique tropique and early glasgow underground releases by studio blue. as a more dj-friendly alternative he also delivered a completely instrumental dub mix.

acid worx are kicking off 2014 with 2nd acid vinyl release, this time involving four different artists in the project. their identities will be revealed with the digital release at a later stage, but for now vinyl purists, as always, enjoy your analogue acid!

alight is a new project by ross tones (a.k.a. throwing snow, and one half of snow ghosts), released through local action.

the third in the modular techno series from live analogue artist and freerotation organiser steevio. after 15 years of producing techno live on hardware, in 2009 steevio began building a dedicated machine on which he could totally improvise an entire techno performance from a blank canvas that far surpassed anything he could do with his previous setup of drum machines and synthesizers. steevio’s modular is 100 analogue, there is no computer involved, there are no memories to save sounds or sequencing patterns, and everything is improvised in real time.. volumes 1 and 2 of the series were just a taster of what was to come, and were the early experimentations on steevio’s newly built machine. steevio records everything he does, especially during the intense practice sessions for live gigs. all the music in the series are out-takes from these practice sessions, and the tracks from volume 3 and the forthcoming volume 4 all come from a three day period in practice for a recent live gig at delete, bournemouth, uk. volume 3 continues from where volume 2 left off but delivered with more confidence and a deeper more hypnotic feel. steevio continues to develop his skills and fine tunes his unique instrument in this dedicated for life project.

möd3rn is a global project from 3 wellknown artists who wanted to give a side project from their own solo career. its a band, producing, playing live but its also a label created only for the trio productions. each releases will propose 3 tracks from the 3 artists

*it all started in 1974 with the purchase of my first mini moog and another 70s dream machine, a white mellotron m 400.* so starts klaus hoffmann of his 40 years love affair with the mellotron. moving from prog-rock guitarist to cosmic disco warrior in a space of a few years, the birth of cosmic hoffmann would lead to a number of classic kosmiche albums through-out the 1980s. before this though came space-disco. initially recorded in 1978 after endless late night sessions exploring the new realms of this free form electronic music, the first incarnation was recorded live to tape for a failed film project. an uplifting spaced-out synth journey, it was the later reworked version that would go on to become the lost cult classic. with added disco syncopation taking the track into interstellar spheres, it appeared only as a flipside of cosmic hoffmanns first and last single, *weltraumboogie*, in 1982. unfortunately the release did not make much impression at the time but has become highly sought-after for the more leftfield dj and music lovers in the years since. now fully licensed and remastered, the inclusion of the unreleased 1978 original will be only add to the collectors dream.

the stl project elevates you again on another lovely 12inch called magic23. with 4 tracks and 2 bonus loops, it is the continuation of the vinyl series in deep practiced something style and artful moody created beats and sound made by stephan laubner.

gerome sportelli presents sporty limited, a new record label managed by himself as a limited vinyl series. after big success with his krax records in 2004, veteran gerome sportelli is back with a new label project. the genre of the label swings between dance floor oriented house and techno, with a touch of acid and of course some dusty old school flavours. gerome’s already active in the music industry since the early 90’s as a producer, dj, label manager, party promoter and graphic designer. his music ‘smells’ old school, just like the early age of acid house, but infused with today’s intelligent constructions and an engaged vision on music. gerome’s music is made from bronze age analogue synths, love, passion and modern digital mixing techniques.for this first sporty limited release, gerome comes out with three stylish tracks. the first track, a side “drive”, is a fat house stomper with strong stabs and female voice hits. the break is intense and works effectively on packed dance floors. b1 is called “free range” and feels like summer. it’s full of classic house sounds, filtered strings and hypnotic loops. this is a chicago­styled, disco sampled, deep and classy house track we love and cherish. the b2 track, “don’t go”, is composed with a classic house bass, shuffled 909 drums and dark space strings. you’ll immediately recognize the deep and melodic detroit house sound.

madteo, vinalog (a.k.a. emg and john swing) and third side have remixed xenogears >multiverse<. xenogears is the name of the first studio project of marieu and lucretio, also known as the analogue cops. with this moniker they released a bunch of seminal techno cuts on the first chapters of their restoration imprint, back in 2007. now, the xenogears are back and a full album titled >lost artemis< will be released in spring 2014 featuring their distinctive fast minimalistic, detroit-inspired and machines-driven techno.>multiverse< is the single choosen to transmit the sound of their forthcoming album, which will also features collaborations with their >bratha< no mad ronin and the talented producer known as objekt.

collaborations are often the fortune of timing. with andy having moved on since closing the dissident label to launching his cave paintings project to tim s departure from battant and striking out as andrew weatheralls engineer and soon to be co-member of the asphodells, an alliance was born between the two to undertake a series of live jam sessions at eachs respective studios. a love of new wave, new beat, uk bleep and detroit techno all feature in b-ultras and the aptly titled, neu beat. both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of andys (and co-hort joe hart) infamous world unknown dancefloor. running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid houses ideals. clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. backing these up is a remix of b-ultras from jamie paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some b-boy dub throwdown - with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.
